Cheerful, dynamic and spontaneous are the first words that come to mind to describe the lovely Anne Rajoo. The young woman decided to make Mauritius her new home three years ago and since then, she has been sharing her skills and contagious smile with Itineris Travel Agency as Sales and Marketing Executive.
A little bit about me…
My name is Annegret but everyone calls me Anne, it’s simpler. I was born in Dresden in Germany, where I lived and studied Law, International Tourism and Event Management. In 2006, I felt the urge to discover new horizons and moved to Utrecht in the Netherlands for a year, to obtain a degree in Commerce and Economics.
Soon after, the irresistible call of London followed. This big city that works and plays hard was such an exciting place to learn and acquire priceless experience. I have held several positions at one of the largest tour operators in the European market, the last one was the role of Hotel Contracts Manager. It was not my dream job, but I was happy nevertheless.
“I spent ten fabulous years in London where I met Kevin, a charming Mauritian.”
Why Mauritius?
I spent ten wonderful years in London, where I met Kevin, a charming Mauritian who became my husband and father of our child, Lucas. As I didn’t think that the British capital was the ideal environment for my son to grow up, we decided to start a new life here.
New country, new job, new me!
I began working in the travel agency department of Harel Mallac in 2016. As luck would have it, I joined the group when it began its rebranding process. I was fortunate to participate in the construction of this new era and the birth of Itineris Travel Agency, the new identity of Harel Mallac Travel & Leisure.
Think like a Mauritian
The travel industry is an ultra competitive world that is constantly offering new challenges. But the hardest part for me was to understand Mauritians. I know how Europeans think and it would have been easier for me to sell Mauritius to foreigners. I do not know how to think like a Mauritian woman! Fortunately, with the help of my loved ones and my colleagues, there have been more ups than downs.
I also started learning French and Creole. Well … for now, my Creole is better than my French, but I’ll get there!
A concept that suits me
When you are working on a project that is close to your heart, it is easier to adapt and progress. I put all my energy to make sure that Itineris stands out by offering tailor-made and unique experiences, according to the tastes, needs and budget of the client. We avoid packages where he will find himself overwhelmed by a crowd. The latter is also involved in the organisation of his trip. That’s why Itineris’s motto is “Be your creative travel designer”.
“At the moment, responsible tourism is my top priority.”
At the moment, the implementation of responsible tourism is my priority. We work very closely with small companies overseas, which have authentic local roots. This way of planning a journey corresponds to my values of authenticity, respect for others and nature. This is certainly not ecotourism but it’s about being responsible and doing everything to protect the destination.
What I want in my professional life
My career goals and objectives are clear and I am working with the whole team to get there: to make Itineris the first travel agency that comes to mind when someone wishes to experience a wonderful vacation abroad.
